Cuba Sports Service Trip
November 6-13, 2024

Our Mission in Cuba
From November 6-13, 2024, SAWB organized a sports service trip to Havana, Cuba. During our time there, we carried out various sports-related community service projects and relied on volunteers and donations to make it all possible. The difficult economic situation in Cuba over the past several years had devalued the currency while the price of basic necessities significantly increased, making life incredibly challenging for those living on the island. At the time, the average monthly income was only $10, which meant that every contribution of time, money, or effort could make an even greater impact.
Our mission was to serve the needs of student athletes and the Cuban people by:
Collecting and distributing sports-related items that were either impossible to purchase in Cuba or too expensive for the local population, such as balls, nets, clothing, uniforms, shoes, jerseys, gloves, bats, and hoops.
Organizing and instructing sports clinics for Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball for local youth, and supporting the creation of leagues to ensure the sports could continue long after our trip.
We worked closely with local community leaders to identify areas of greatest need, ensuring that our time and resources made the biggest impact both during our visit and for many years to come.
